NCEI Research Interns
In 2025, the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) launched an internship program that provides research opportunities for UNCA students. These semester-long internships focus on applied climatology, data science, and atmospheric science, drawing students from a wide range of University departments. NEMAC and NCEI have collaborated to facilitate this student intern program. Although students are working directly with mentors at NCEI, they remain UNCA student employees. NEMAC ensures the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding process of selected students, working directly with NCEI to find the right student for each open position. To date, eight UNCA students have been selected for this unique research experience.
